I’m a mother of eleven, the author of Silent Grief, and a speaker. For more than 25 years, I’ve been sharing words of hope with people learning to live with loss.

My roots are simple. I grew up on a farm, and I still love gardening, home canning, and the quiet company of nature. Raising eleven children brought its own full, noisy, often funny stories. Family, faith, and the ordinary moments of a day find their way into much of what I write.

The experience behind the words

Grief entered my life when I was young, with the death of my thirteen-year-old sister, Carmella. Later came miscarriages, the stillbirth of my son Samuel, and the sudden death of my adult son Mike in 2015. Their lives, and their absence, are part of my own story.

I know what it is to keep loving someone whose place in the family can never be filled. That experience shapes the way I write about grief, faith, and finding enough hope for another day.

A place to feel understood

I wrote Silent Grief and founded SilentGrief.com to offer understanding and support to people facing child loss. Over the years, that work has grown into more books, online writing, workshops, and conversations with bereaved parents and the people who love them.

My books include Child Loss: The Heartbreak and the Hope and Hope 365. I’ve spoken with church and community groups, at women’s retreats, and with parents trying to make sense of loss. Whether I’m writing or speaking, I want to give people room to talk honestly about the children they love and the grief they carry.

Speaking up for children

My family’s experiences with abuse have also led me to write and speak about keeping children safe. I’ve led workshops with my son, Jimmy Hinton, helping adults think more carefully about abuse, the warning signs we can miss, and our responsibility to protect children.

That part of my story is here, too, in my writing about understanding abuse.

The everyday things, too

You’ll also find stories about kitchen clutter, walks with my camera, the worries of an ordinary day, and the small things that make me laugh. And yes, I love chocolate, too.

I’m glad you’re here. Take your time. You can begin with a reading guide, browse my writing, or send me a note.

Earlier biography

An earlier biography of Clara.

In 1995 Clara Hinton became a published author. Silent Grief is a book that has touched the hearts of many, and has helped thousands of hurting people cope with the grief of child loss. Clara also founded the website www.SilentGrief.com which is used daily by people around the world for grief support associated with child loss.

Shortly after having books published, Clara began speaking and conducting workshops. She is now expanding her speaking to include teaching people how to stay focused on their goals, how to unleash the power of resiliency found within everyone, how to use obstacles as stepping stones to success, and how to use proven methods to experience grief relief.

A topic that has recently become close to Clara’s heart is that of "Protecting Children from Sexual Predators."
